Five days of eating pork, drinking wine and being truly merry in May ..
Porchetta is one of Italy’s most popular street food. It consists of a roasted pig with crispy skin and an unmistakable rich and herbal flavour. There are many regional variations, but the Umbrian Porchetta takes pride in detaining the original recipe, according to which savoury meat is generously seasoned with garlic, salt, pepper, wild fennel and rosemary or lard. The slow roasted pork is then sliced and sandwiched in between a crusty bread roll, ready to be served at the market fair.
The program consists of a variety of informative wine tastings and luscious meals in the company of our tour leader and wine expert Barbara D’Agapiti. We will also be joined by Chef Sara Jenkins, owner of the “Nina June Restaurant” who, in unison with Barbara is passionate about all things Umbrian.
A small group of participants will have the opportunity to experience a unique trip to Umbria designed around the “Porchettiamo” festival: a wonderful and characteristic Italian street fair where you will be able to sample classic porchetta and porchetta variations by the best street food vendors from all over the country.
The experience includes visits to family run wineries and authentic trattorias, hands on cooking classes with host Letizia Mattiacci at “Agriturismo Alla Madonna del Piatto- Cooking School”, lunch in a delightful private garden, and a porchetta making demonstration with one of the best porchetta makers in the area.
The “Porchettiamo” festival is held in the tiny historic town of San Terenziano but we shall also tour the beautiful cities of Foligno, Perugia, Montefalco, Bevagna and Assisi.
The month of May is perhaps the most magical time to visit Umbria, the weather is mild, and the green fields are bursting with flowers everywhere.
So, join us for five days of eating pork, drinking wine and being truly merry in May!
